Mega Event at Lei Yue Mun
Asian Open Water Swimming Championship
On 21 Oct 2012, the 5th Asian Open Water Swimming
Championship takes place at Lei Yue Mun. It's a 5km
course around the Victoria Harbour.
New World Harbour Race
The first Harbour Race was started a century ago.
In 1906, the first Harbour Race was held. In those
days, it was a lot less polluted and the race runs every
year for 72 years. In 1979, however, the water quality
of the harbour was so polluted that it raised public
concerns and finally they had decided to suspend the race.
Over the years, Hong Kong has been trying to improve the
quality of the water and put a lot of effort to control raw
sewage. In 2011, this iconic sport event is back when
the water is consider safe again.
The Harbour Race starts off at Sam Ka Tsuen Public Pier
in Lei Yue Mun to Sai Wan Ho Harbour Park Public Pier on
Hong Kong Island side. It's a 1.5km course and has
attracted over 1,000 keen swimmers to participate.
In 2012, the race starts at 8:30 on 21 October (Sunday).
